Building Green

Braley Road-2
Braley Road, Plymouth, MA.

"There is no place like home," as Dorothy so eloquently put it long ago. Home ownership is truly the dream of all families, and today more than ever that dream is harder to come by.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth (HFHGP) has a mission to make that dream possible for families in our community who would otherwise not be able to have a home to call their own. HFHGP also believes that in addition to building homes for our neighbors, we need to make those houses as energy efficient and affordable as possible.

So this is why our house in the Plymouth 4th of July parade is Green! Starting with the house on Braley Road in Plymouth, all of the homes that HFHGP builds from this point on will be "Green" homes.

The technology in the Braley Road house includes insulated concrete forms for the foundation, SIPS (structural insulated panels) framing, photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity, and much more. This home is on track to be the first LEED® certified Habitat home in Massachusetts! LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a nationally accepted rating system for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth believes that going green will not only help our environment but will also be a benefit to our family partners by helping to control their energy costs.

Join us on August 17th at 2 pm for the dedication ceremony of the Braley Road home and see how beautiful "building green" can be. You will be able to meet the Scarpino Family and many of our board members and volunteers as well as learn how you can best help HFHGP build more green homes for our neighbors in need.

And remember, There is No Place Like Home!
